You don’t have to be from Brooklyn to appreciate this link, but since I am, I’ll tell you about my candy store. It was Freddie’s, on the corner of 47th Street and Fifth Avenue in Sunset Park. It was my source for pretzel rods and egg creams and Bazooka bubble gum and magazines with the lyrics of the latest songs. When I got a little older, it was Gino’s Pizzeria (our family lived above it). That’s where I spent my quarters on the jukebox, listening to Dion and the Belmonts (“Runaround Sue”),  The Shells (“Baby Oh Baby”), and The Chantels (“I Love You So”).

What about you? Where was your hangout?
